e-Ginny blog
Welcome to our new e-Ginny blog - we’ll be updating this section regularly as work on the landmark diesel-to-electric e-Ginny retrofit project progresses.
To kick things off, Ginny Louise, a Mercurio 20m CTV, was lifted out at Alicat Workboats in Great Yamouth. Here we suffered our first setback: due to horrendous rain, we had to delay the lift a few days for the concrete to dry before work could continue. Once the weather eased up, Goodchild Marine Services contracted Alicat to get her ‘blocked’ and scaffolded ready for wrapping.
Team Tidal stripped out the hulls and superstructure, engines, gearboxes, sea chests, genset, heating, toilets, showers, bunks, seats, tables, radiators, calorifiers, props, shafts, rudders, skegs, steering rams, hydraulic tanks, hydraulic pipes, bow trusters, cooking gas system, CO2 system, cooker, old wiring to MAN engines and all old systems, Stat X, batteries, crane, chargers, stern tubes, cutlass bearings, fire pumps, old consumer units, carpets, sofa, rubber flooring, insulation, rails, life rafts, washing machine, bow crash box, old bow fenders, CCTV, Fire panel, plumbing, fuel transfer system and pipework.
All in all, the total removed amounted to over 30,000kg.
Despite the rain the stripping process only took about 8 days – quicker than originally expected!
