Project: e-Ginny – 100% electric retrofit of a 20m Mercurio CTV
Partners: Goodchild Marine Services, Artemis Technologies, MJR Power & Automation, Volvo Penta, Danfoss, Corvus Energy
Funding: Zero Emissions Vessel and Infrastructure (ZEVI), Department for Transport (DfT) & Innovate UK
Details:
e-Ginny is a groundbreaking project to undergo the world’s first retrofit from diesel to fully electric CTV.
Part-funded by the Department for Transport (through the ZEVI scheme) and facilitated by Innovate UK, this multi-partner initiative will see a diesel-powered Mercurio 20m vessel transformed to run off 100% electric power, fitted with over 2 MWh of battery capacity, electric motors and propulsion pods.
Alongside design and engineering of the E-CTV itself, our project partners will develop and deliver both a shoreside charger and an offshore wind-turbine based charging solution.
Expected outcomes:
e-Ginny will not only be 100% zero emissions in operation, but also boast increased manoeuvrability while being near-silent for passengers and passers-by. The important additional development of offshore charging capability means that E-CTVs will be chargeable on location within the windfarm, greatly increasing the time and range that e-Ginny and other vessels can stay in operation without returning to port.
