eFoiler EF-12
Project: eFoiler EF-12
Partners: Artemis technologies, Ørsted, Lloyd’s Register
Funding: Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 3 (CMDC3)
Details:
The EF-12 project is seeing the development, testing, and deployment of a 12-metre, 100% electric crew transfer vessel capable of transiting technicians safely from shore to turbine in varying weather conditions.
Artemis’ foiling technology offers up to 80% drag reduction compared with traditional designs, allowing vessels to service areas that are further offshore. Paired with 100% battery propulsion, the EF-12 will offer safe, reliable and low-carbon crew transfer across great distances in up to 1.5-metre waves, a market-wide requirement for CTV operations.
Expected Outcomes:
Successful demonstration of the EF-12 project will prove that vessels fitted with eFoiler propulsion systems have viable range and safety across a breadth of different weather conditions. This will unlock future opportunities for eFoiling technology and help eliminate range anxiety in the market.
The project also encompasses the development of a shoreside battery charging system, a key supporting infrastructure that will be vital for the mass scale-up and adoption of electric-powered crew transfer.
