Zero Emissions Capable - Real Hybrid CTV Concept
Project: Zero Emissions Capable – Real Hybrid CTV Concept
Partners: Capilano
Details:
Based on a 27-metre Capilano hull, the ZE Capable - Real Hybrid CTV concept features quad propulsion, powered primarily from modular battery packs, along with diesel-powered gensets. The CTV would be capable of carrying 12-24 passengers, up to four 10-foot containers (or two 20-foot), as well as providing above deck, 24 hour marine crew accommodation.
A significant proportion of the vessel’s operating distance would be powered by electric from its onboard batteries (dependent on factors such as distance, load, and weather) with the remaining propulsion supplied by diesel gensets, a similar system to plug-in hybrid road transport.
Outcomes:
Modelling of real-world operating profiles for multiple sites has shown that the hybrid can save thousands of litres of diesel daily without compromising speed or time in the field. Comparisons made against other similar sized CTVs, even without offshore charging in place, show a 50% saving in diesel usage. With supporting infrastructure, this number can be brought down to zero.
